Junior Sailors Celebrate July with Awards at Cookout

Most of the record 80 junior sailors who participated in the SYC junior sailing program during the month of July celebrated a great month of fun and sun (and some rain, too) at a cookout at the club last Friday.  Everyone came away with something to remember the month by -- SYC tee-shirts and candy to keep the memories sweet.  Some came away with awards for their exploits during the month, and for doing well in the various month-end sailing championships.

Ynglings Tuned Up for North Americans in July Racing

Sakonnet's Ynglings used the five Saturday July race season to tune up for the Yngling North American Championships coming to SYC August 20-23.  Club sailors John Ingalls, Ellie Field, Bruce Chafee, Ruth Hough and many junior sailors were joined by Salve college students Torey Pellegrini and teammates in a fleet that included some boats which competed in the Beijing Olympics and some brand new ones.

Consistency and showing up paid off for Ellie Field in Teal.  On days when they showed up in new boats, Ruth Hough, Mike and Torey, and John Ingalls proved to be very fast as well, with Ruth and Mike/Torey sharing second place for the 12-race July series behind Ellie.

Aldens Close Out July in Photo Finish

Seven Aldens showed up on a foggy Saturday afternoon this weekend to close out the July racing season.  When the smoke cleared, Tom Woodhouse's JAVA had captured the top spot with seven bullets; Hoyt and Littlefield's Bachelor Button held on for second, barely nipping the Thomases' Old Bull and the Taylors' Cutty Wow in third and fourth.  Chiquita finished strong to follow in fifth for the month; Elisha competed in every race in July to finish sixth, while "newcomers" Augusta and September Song rounded out the fleet.
